2018 ADPL NSW – The Key Changes

The ADPL New South Wales Conference launched in 2017 with great success. The competition has given NSW dodgeballers a platform to be involved in high performance dodgeball, and be part of the pipeline towards our national team, the Australian Dodgeroos.

As we look forward to the 2018 season, we’ve made some alterations which we believe will aid the development of players, grow the talent pool and ultimately enhance the competition.

Key Points For 2018 Season:

  • ADPL NSW Conference will have its own MEN’S, MIXED & WOMEN’S divisions.
  • Each Club will participate in all three divisions throughout the season.
  • Each round, Clubs will play 2 Mixed games, 1 Men’s game and 1 Women’s game.
  • Women’s Division will be a maximum of 5 players on court, at any given time.
  • Rounds will be played on the same date and venue for both divisions (Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre).
  • Players in each Club are eligible to compete in the Men’s, Mixed and Women’s divisions each round. It’s your Club’s choice on who plays where during the season.
  • Mixed division will have a maximum of three male players on court, at any given time.
  • ADPL NSW season scheduled to begin Saturday, March 24.
  • Rounds will be played approximately every three weeks, on average.
  • Club Registration Deadline: March 1, 2018. Existing Clubs need to re-register their players, including new players. Individual players can also register before or during the season. Further details to follow.
  • From January – March, Open Days will be organised to give new players the opportunity to try-out ADPL dodgeball. The aim behind this is to allow Clubs to recruit players or allow the potential for new Clubs to be formed.
  • The 2018 ADPL National Finals Series and DFA Cup will include a Men’s, Mixed and Women’s Division.
  • The Australian Dodgeball Nationals Weekend will be hosted in Sydney. The date and venue will be confirmed in due course.

The purpose of this new format is to further enhance our high performance program, increase player growth, and make the game more inclusive for everyone, particularly our female players.

The Mixed and Women’s Divisions will better serve our female dodgeballers, with a reduction of male players on the court. The objective behind this is to not only enhance female development by giving them more extensive roles on the court, but importantly to encourage more female involvement and create a deeper playing pool in NSW.

The Men’s Division will allow male players to experience a higher intensity of dodgeball, and prepare players to take that next step up in their development as a high performance athlete. As seen in Victoria, the Men’s Division has many benefits and will give players the best possible preparation for nationals and international dodgeball.

With a new, authentic Club format being adopted, it’s an exciting time for NSW Dodgeball. We’re now taking the next step in professionalism, and giving Club’s the opportunity to expand their squads, encourage new players to get involved, and importantly build a unique culture within their Club.
