About ADPL

Dodgeball Federation Australia is proud to unveil the Australian Dodgeball Premier League (ADPL), a new competition set to launch in September, 2016 – on the back of the Australian Dodgeroos’ success at the 2016 World Cup in Manchester.

The ADPL will prove to be an elite pathway for our Australian dodgeballers. It provides players the opportunity to put their name forward, and importantly be in contention for Dodgeroos selection, in upcoming training squads and world tours.

The aim behind this is to enhance the standard of dodgeball to a wider audience, and increase competition for places in the national team.

The ADPL will be sanctioned by the World Dodgeball Association and Asian Dodgeball Federation. With the backing of the world body, the top teams at the completion of the ADPL season will be given the opportunity to represent their team at the inaugural Asia Club Championships in 2017.

In addition to the ADPL, the DFA Cup, a knockout style cup competition involving all ADPL teams, will be introduced for the 2017 season. Further details can be viewed here.

The Premier League concept was initially introduced in July, 2014. Following extensive research and a much clearer vision on the direction of the competition, we are optimistic the league will be a great success, and further develop dodgeball at domestic and international level.

ADPL Logo Representation:

The ADPL logo is a depiction of Australia’s rich sporting history, evidenced by our traditional green and gold colours. Noticeably, the logo has three stars, each representing a unique achievement in the formation of DFA’s high performance domestic structure.

• First Star: Represents the winning club of your state’s Premier League Competition (EG: VDPL Champion).
• Second Star: Represents the winning club of the national ADPL Finals Series (Select number of clubs at the conclusion of their state’s Premier League, will play-off for the national title in the coming seasons).
• Third Star: Represents the winning club of the DFA Cup.

Following every two title wins in each category, clubs will be able to feature the star on their playing uniforms. (EG: 4 VDPL titles = 2 VDPL Stars).

Background Info & What To Look Forward To:

• Inaugural ADPL season to run from September – December, 2016.
• For the 2016 season, rounds will be staged every fortnight on average, with Friday night and Saturday fixtures to be played during the season. From 2017, the season will run over a longer duration, with rounds to be played every three weeks on average.
• Every match-day, teams will play two matches, against different opposition. Each match contributes towards the overall results / ladder.
• Two referees, in addition to two line-judges will be appointed for each ADPL fixture.
• Teams all play at the single venue.
• The official ball will be 7-inch cloth (same ball used at the 2016 World Cup).
• The official WDA international rules will be implemented.
• The DFA Cup, beginning in 2017, will be the national knockout style cup competition, involving all ADPL teams.
• Each year, there will be a Premier League and DFA Cup champion.
• Maximum of three (3) Australian Dodgeroos representatives from 2015 / 2016 (maximum of 2 male or 2 female representatives), can be on each ADPL squad.
• The ADPL will be utilised to track player performances. Selection of future Australian training squads will be based on the ADPL competition.
• In time, other states will follow suite with their own Premier League competition.
• Players outside Victoria will be eligible to be invited to Australian Dodgeroos training camps / be selected via other methods, including – video submission of their matches, invitations to participate in select Victorian Premier League rounds and any affiliated DFA events, including tournaments.
• The top teams from the ADPL will be given the opportunity to play at the 2017 Asia Club Championships (further details to follow).
• Each club will represent a suburb / area.
• Clubs will have their own dedicated page on the website, including Online Playing Squads, media, videos, stats and more.

REGISTRATION:

• To Register a Team, complete the Online Form HERE.
• Team Captains must select a suburb they wish to represent, along with a nickname (EG: Bulleen City, Geelong Giants, Greensborough Dodgers, Footscray Falcons etc).
• Individual / Small Groups of players can also register, to be placed into a team.
• Clubs can gather sponsors, to be displayed on their playing uniforms and individual Club pages via the website.
